Our Work: Stop Scrolling, Start Something

Youth Social Media Campaign Reminds Families Not to Take the Internet Too Seriously

CLIENT: NH Department of Education

The NH Department of Education (NH ED) is always looking for ways to bring the spirit of learning to students in the state, regardless of their background or learning level. One project we had a ton of fun with was Stop Scrolling, Start Something. This campaign, created based on a recommendation from NH’s Governor, asks us to be vigilant about NH’s youth and the mental health struggles that come from being chronically online. The result of our work was a wildly successful digital campaign and series of creative animations you’ll just have to watch for yourself!

WHAT WE DID
  • Logo and Landing Page Design
  • Animation
  • Social Media Management

Logo and Landing Page Design

Working with the NH ED brand colors and sprout icon, we created an on-brand logo and engaging landing page where families can see what NH has to offer when you aren’t on your phone. The landing page included a filter for activities based on cost and topic.

Animation

Playing off NH’s recognizable landmarks like Hampton Beach and the White Mountains, we developed fun and age-appropriate animations designed to catch the attention of the audience. The ads were a hit on Snapchat and Instagram!

Each animation features a photo collage-like style with funny sound effects to embellish the playfulness of the message. All landmark-themed videos are in the format of a “Breaking News” segment to further capture the viewers’ attention. With silly eye-catching stories like these, one can only Stop Scrolling and Start Something 🙂

Social Media Management

The New Hampshire Department of Education’s Stop Scrolling campaign aimed to reduce excessive screen time among teens by promoting healthier digital habits. Initially launched on Meta platforms—Facebook and Instagram—the campaign successfully engaged the target audience. To expand its reach and connect more effectively with teenagers, we extended the campaign to Snapchat and TikTok, which resulted in improved audience engagement and a stronger impact. The multi-platform approach allowed us to reach a broader, more relevant demographic, driving the campaign’s success.

“Cookson assisted the New Hampshire Department of Education with its Stop Scrolling, Start Something campaign, which urges teens to reflect on the time they spend on their devices. The campaign has taken a novel approach by meeting teens where they already are, on social media. Through creative and lighthearted videos, as well as humorous and engaging messages, the campaign encourages students to break free from the cycle of mindless scrolling and instead invest their time in meaningful activities. In just three months, the campaign’s TikTok advertisements generated 1.2 million impressions and 25,000 clicks to its website.”
