Justin Madore, Summer Internship at Cookson Communications

My Summer Internship at CSC

I’m currently a Communication Management and Design major with a minor in Integrated Marketing Communications at Ithaca College. When I tell people this, it’s common for them to ask exactly what communication management and design means, and for a while, I didn’t really have a solid answer for them. However, my time at Cookson Strategic Communications has shed a light for me on what these words mean in practice. What they boil down to, for me, is figuring out what to say, how to say it, and when to say it. At CSC, I learned how to do this, and truly gained a deeper understanding of working in the communications field.

During my time here, I worked on a variety of projects, such as building media lists, editing business plans, and writing press releases. The projects I found most interesting were those pertaining to social media. I consistently worked on social media content calendars during my internship, and it taught me a lot about the communications field while giving me the chance to apply the skills I had been learning in class. Using social media is all about crafting content to get people’s attention online. I found these social media projects very engaging because the three steps to getting people to pay attention to you are figuring out what to say, how to say it, and when to say it.

Before my internship at CSC, I was a rising junior with no real experience in the communications field. On August 15, I’ll leave with skills that I did not have when I started. Thank you, CSC!
